Students in our vibrant campus community explore their personal faith and growth. The Gathering The Gathering is a safe, open space where undergraduate and graduate students can explore and express their questions and their doubts, learn from others, and be supported in their personal faith and growth. We gather every Wednesday night, 5:30-7:30, for a free, home-cooked meal, conversation, and friendship. If you are new to the University of Michigan, whether a freshman in college or a new graduate student, we hope you will check us out some Wednesday night this fall! If you are returning to the University of Michigan and haven't yet found a place that you can call "home, " either spiritually or socially, we hope you will come, too! And if you are just curious about what faith or community is all about, we would love for you to give us a try, too. We think you will find that we are warm, open, and accepting of people from all backgrounds, with all kinds of questions and hopes. Resident Sexton Program Each year, we hire three or four Resident Sextons to work around the church buildings and Campus Center in return for their housing for the September – April academic year.

Let's say you're out to dinner alone. You eat your meal, the bill comes. Your debit card is declined. You're a reasonable looking person (eg. not homeless looking, not an obvious drug addict, etc. ). You've got no cash on you. You've got no family or friends to call to borrow money or their credit card over the phone. It's not even your fault - there's been some sort of mix-up at the bank or something. You've got a credit card, but it's with the same bank. Since your debit card is working, assume you don't have any way to get cash at an ATM because of this. Bottom line: you literally can't pay for your meal right now. The old adage "washing dishes" would perhaps apply. What happens? Policy might differ per-restaurant - does anybody work at a restaurant where this has happened? Let's assume this is a fairly classy and popular place, not some mom-and-pop small-town place where you live in the town and the owner knows of you or something like that. EDIT: Some great discussion going on here, thanks everybody!
