I have learned not to overreact and think about what was said. I have found that I have become a better employee when I learn from feedback. How would you deal with an upset customer? I would find out what is wrong with the customer. If it was the product I would offer to replace it (say you would check with your manager first) it is important to keep the customer happy as an unhappy customer will never return. If the customer was upset because of the wait time I would listen to what they have to say and apologize. Where do you see yourself in five years? This question is designed to see if you have goals but, more importantly, to see if you a good fit for the restaurant. For example, a career in restaurant management will say you want to stay in this industry. If going to college or university state what you would like to be doing after you finish but try and see if you can relate your degree to a job in the restaurant industry. Why should I hire you? "Small business" interview Restaurants do not run their own HR departments. They do not employ recruitment consultants or HR managers. Unless you apply for a job in a big hotel chain (or one of their restaurants), you will not have to handle difficult personality testing in your interview. The owner of the place will lead an interview with you, or a restaurant manager. In any case, it will be someone who cares a lot about the success of their business. Though they are not professionals in leading interviews, they will do their best to choose the right person for the job. Impression matters more than words Before we look at typical interview questions, I want you to realize something.

Basic Server Interview Questions The following questions are a great way to gauge your candidate's interest in the position at your company. These server interview questions can determine if the candidate can meet the basic needs of your server position. What makes you interested in this position? Why did you leave your last restaurant job? What is the easiest part of being a server? What is the most difficult? How many customers or tables are you used to or able to serve at one time?
