This is now longer just for the highest paid jobs, from entry level to C-Level across sales marketing and technical roles, the likelihood is, if you're looking for your next role, you're going to have to do one at some point. This can be quite daunting especially if you do not have to do them in your day job. Some people may not have put together a PowerPoint presentation for years, or at all! So it's understandable that this can be overwhelming and there's a lot to consider; where do you start, how long do you spend on it, what should it look like, how many slides should you use, how long will it take? The pressure in getting your presentation right is definitely on, in most instances, your presentation could be the difference in you being offered the job of your dreams, or not!

Presentations are becoming an increasingly common part of the recruitment process, particularly for roles that require verbal communication skills. Marketing, sales, public relations and teaching are just some of the sectors that ask candidates to give a talk at interview. If you're asked to give a presentation, here are seven tips to impress. 1. Know what's expected of you Find out as much as you can before the interview. Who will be in the audience? How long will you required to speak for? Will you be expected to host a Q&A session at the end, or field questions during your talk? 'Sometimes you'll be given a topic in advance, sometimes you will only be given this 30 minutes or so beforehand, ' says John Lees, author of a wide range of career books including The Interview Expert: How to Get the Job You Want. Sticking to the brief is imperative, the employer will be marking you though out on this, ensure you cover off every element of the brief in your presentation. Do not make the slides too wordy, think of them more of a visual prop. They should be bullet points. You do not want the employer squinting over your shoulder reading lots of text when they should be looking at how well you present! Make it look visually stimulating - Copy and paste the company logo on to each page. With regards to the font, use the same font and ideally the same font size (you can use a larger font for the titles on each slide to make them stand out). Take inspiration from the employers logo and website to make it look slick. For instance if the employers logo is white and red, use these colours in your font, on the slide backgrounds in your PowerPoint, etc. Be careful of grammatical errors these are a cardinal sin and stand out a mile to employers.
